Career and practice

Dr Green has been providing oral surgical services to the central west and surrounding areas of NSW for nearly 30 years. He studied at Sydney University from 1982 to 1987 graduating Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours.

He was awarded the University Medal in 1987 in recognition of being the top graduating student in his year and was also awarded a total of five out of the eight prizes on offer for that year. These included prizes for clinical restorative and prosthetic dentistry, operative dentistry, Port Dental Laboratories prize and the Society of Oral Surgeons of NSW medallion for clinical oral medicine and oral surgery.

After graduating as a dentist Dr Green furthered his studies and completed his training at Westmead Hospital culminating in being awarded a Masters of Dental Surgery (Oral Surgery) from Sydney University in 1991.

Wanting a country life for his family they moved to the Central West of NSW in Molong. After a brief stint in Orange, Dr Green commenced practice in Molong in 1992 combining a general dental practice with a referral based oral surgery practice. He also provided relief, on-call oral surgical services for the Greater Western Area Health Service for nearly 20 years and was the ADA representative on the Area Health credentialing committee.

Dr Green has held appointments at Molong District Hospital, Dudley Private Hospital, Orange Day Surgery Centre, Orange Base Hospital and Mudgee Hospital and now restricts his practice to oral surgery.

Wisdom teeth can cause a lot of problems as we move from adolescence into adulthood. Wisdom teeth need to come through the gum just like other teeth, but in some cases remain impacted. This can be due to a lack of space in the jaw or they can have an incorrect angulation that prevents them from coming through.

Abnormalities within the mouth, especially in the presence of cigarette smoking and/or excessive alcohol intake can predispose to oral cancer. Some lesions can be pre-cancerous and early diagnosis and treatment is of critical significance.

Dentoalveolar surgery is the areas of dentistry specific to surgery of the jaw, gum and other bony or soft tissues in the mouth. Most common procedures would be difficult dental extractions or ones that previous attempts at extraction have not been successful.

An impacted tooth is one that has not erupted into a fully functional position. Generally, an impacted tooth is the result of not enough space available in the mouth.

A Frenectomy is a procedure performed by a dentist that reduces the size of a frenum - a soft tissue attachment of a muscle. In the mouth, you have a frenum underneath the tongue and also have a frenum on the top jaw connecting lip in between the two front teeth.
