Oral Pathology

Orange, Cowra, Dubbo, Wellington & Surrounding District

Oral pathology is the science of investigating any lesions or bumps within the mouth or its immediate area that are not normal.

Abnormalities within the mouth, especially in the presence of cigarette smoking and/or excessive alcohol intake can predispose to oral cancer. Some lesions can be pre-cancerous and early diagnosis and treatment is of critical significance.

Mouth Lesions

Abnormalities may include white patches, red patches, raised lumps and ulcers or anything that is different or changing within your mouth.

Early Signs of Mouth Cancer

Oral pathology can determine whether any oral lesions are benign or malignant and a course of action developed. Initially, a biopsy would be taken to determine the clinical significance of an abnormality. Whether surgery may be necessary or another cancer treatment required such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy or immunotherapy is typically determined by a team of skilled clinicians.
